The Process
Artwork
The first step in the process will be providing the artwork for your custom embroidery patch. You supply us with hand-drawn, digital artwork or other designs. The best artwork is one that is of high resolution to provide clear details to the design. We review and discuss to ensure we have the design exactly as you want the finished product to be.
Digitizing
Digitizing is the process of taking your finalized artwork and preparing it digitally for the embroidery machine. We digitize by hand by redrawing the artwork to select the best way for the design to be stitched which includes the stitch type, direction, style and density. Once your design has been digitized we provide a proof for your review and approval.
Production
Once you have approved the design, we then begin to produce the final product. Depending on the size and design, some large center patches can take 2-3 hours to run!
Completion
We hand finish every patch we produce! This includes trimming threads within the design, applying a heat seal protective backing, cutting the patch to its unique shape, and finishing the edges. Some choose to have a stitched border while others prefer to have a merrowed edge which wraps around the edge of the patch.
Biker "Colors" and "Cut"
"Colors" are the insignia or patches worn by motorcycle club members on vest (also known as "cut") to identify membership of their club and are set up as follows:
Three-piece back patch
A three-piece patch designates that a member belongs to a traditional motorcycle club or an outlaw club. A three-piece biker patch consists of a top rocker, the club's emblem, and a bottom rocker. Together, these three pieces are referred to as colors. The top patch contains the name of the club, the middle patch often carries the logo of the club, and the bottom rocker indicates the location of the club. A three-piece shows that the club in question has been approved by the dominant club in the area or state.
Two-piece back patch
A two-piece biker patch is used to represent the transition stage of motorcycle club members. It means that the members are awaiting approval from the club's hierarchy to become a member of the club. If they are approved, they will earn the right to wear a three-piece patch. Wearing a two-piece patch also requires you to be careful about design of the patch as it should not infringe or be similar to the patches of the local clubs.
One-piece back patch
A one-piece patch normally signifies a social club (SC) or riding club (RC), usually worn on the vest ("cut") or jacket, signifies that the wearer is affiliated with a riding club or motorcycle organization. More often these patches contain the following information: the name of the club, logo of the organization, and territory of the club. A one-piece patch also shows that the American Bikers Association has sanctioned the group.
